A migraine is a common type of headache that may occur with symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, or to light and it run in families. Migraine headaches tend to first appear between the ages of 10 and 45. Sometimes they may begin later in life and more often in women than men
MANAGEMENT OF MIGRANE
Acute Management of Migrane involves stopping the progression of the ongoing migraine.
Preventive treatment, is given even in the absence of a headache, the management aims to reduce the occurrence and severity of the attack, and improve the patient's quality of life.
A neurologist should be consulted for appropriate treatment , at early stages .
The following may be considered indications for Preventive migraine therapy:
• migraine attacks frequency - greater than 2 per month
• a single attack duration -more than 24 hours
• major disruptions is caused in patient’s lifestyle, with significant disability that lasts 3 or more days
• medication therapy fails
• Symptomatic medications are ineffective or contraindicated
• Migraine variants producing severe disruption or risk of neurologic injury
The goals of preventive therapy are as follows:
• Reduce attack frequency, severity, and/or duration
• Improve responsiveness to acute attacks
• Reduce disability
