Tingling Sensation And Numbness In Hands And Feet

Tingling sensation on hands and feet is a very common and bothersome condition. This sensation feels like pins and needles in few or numbness in others. It is temporary and benign usually. The numbness can result due to pressure on nerves, due to sitting cross legged, and the sensation is soon relieved once the pressure is relieved.

However the tingling sensation in the hands can be bothersome due to its severe, chronic, continuous and episodic nature. It can be accompanied with pain, itch or even numbness and muscle wasting. This might be a case of nerve damage , and should be taken seriously….
The condition is known as peripheral neuropathy.

What Is Peripheral Neuropathy?

The peripheral nervous system connects the nerves from the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body , the arms , hands , feet , leg , mouth and face. These nerves deliver signals back to the brain.When the nerves malfunction due to damaged to them , disrupting their normal functioning , causes - Peripheral Neuropathy.

Reasons for tingling sensations

1. Nerve damage due to Diabetes the most common form of neuropathy.
2. Kidney disorder in which high amount of toxins build up in the body and damage nerve tissue
3. Hypothyroidism
4. Disease causing inflammatory disease
5. Defiency of vitamins like  E,  B1, B6 & B12
6. Injury
7. Chronic alcohol intake.
8. Exposure to toxins and heavy metals.
9. Infectious diseases that are caused by Bacteria, Fungus or Viral Infections.
10. Auto immune disorders
11. Medication may cause peripheral neuropathy – anti cancer drugs, anti convulsants

Prevent yourself from peripheral neuropathy

 Eat a healthy diet
 Exercise regularly
 Avoid smoking
 Have alcohol in moderation
 In an environment of toxins( occupation area )  – protect your self
 Protect your feet during sports
 If you have diabetes take care of your feet
